Fuel flow

Is it possible to log fuel consumption? I would like to figure fuel mileage in conjunction with a GPS.

Unfortunately not. Best way to do that is to take the amount of miles driven and divide that by the fuel you put into the tank at next fill up.

Injector pulse

...but can you get a relative fuel consumption rate from the injector pulse? Then tune for best relaative fuel consumption and, finally, do the fill up test.

No, there are too many outside variables that can effect the actual fuel delivery. Pump, injector size, fuel pressure, the regulator ratio, etc.

Constants

jmeyer99 Fri Mar 16, 2007 1:47 am

The listed items are constants day to day, particularly the fuel pressure since it is regulated. I am looking for a parameter to tune fuel economy, not the fuel economy itself. It seems the fuel economy is directly proportional, but not equal to, the injector pulse length times the number of injector pulses divided by the distance driven. If true, then if this parameter is optimized, the map will represent the best fuel economy. Is this correct and can I log the pulse length and number of pulses in real time?

Distance can be accurately measured with GPS.

You can't actually tune based on injector pulse and hope it magically works out. You have to watch a wideband at which point watching the injector pulse wouldn't do you any good. Just tune with the wideband for fuel efficiency or economy, whichever you're hoping to achieve.

How would you street tune a pintle-regulated Venturi?

The same way I'd tune any other setup.
