Using OEM knock sensor

seven40 Sat Sep 05, 2015 4:38 pm

Hello everybody!

I have some questions, they may looks stupid, so please forgive me if they are, i'm not really awared about these questions.

I actually have a Demon installed in a Eudm P28 ECU and i also have a P30 JDM ECU ( square ECU).
If i am correct, the P30 JDM ECU is able to manage the OEM Knock sensor .

I wish to use my Demon Inside the P30 and i want to know if using the OEM Knock sensor is a good idea. To be more precise, the engine i'm going to run is an H22A7 and it's original ECU is named PDE.
I suppose that the Knock frequency checked by the P30 ecu must be different from the Knock frenquency checked by the PDE ECU, so is it a good idea or not to maintain this system functional?

Another question, is it possible to change the frequency checked by the ECU?

Thanks for your answers! Very Happy

If you do not have a factory engine with factory computer it's not a good idea to run the knock sensor, although it may or may not work just fine.

The knock board does the signal processing.

Thanks for the reply Very Happy

From factory, this engine comes with a Knock sensor, and the PDE ECU looks like a JDM ECU (square sized) , so i don't know if the Knock boards are switchable...
So i better have to buy an external Knock board maybe?

Thanks for the help! Very Happy

Forget what i mentioned before, it's impossible to invert the Knock board from these ECU, the PDE Knock board seems to be integrated Inside the motherboard.
So " bad idea" Embarassed

Another way is to take a JDM P13 Knock board, but the CR are slightly different, as the camshafts, so the knocking frequency may be slightly different, even if nearest than with the P30 Knock board...

So i better have to buy a standalone Knock watcher but i don't even know what to buy Embarassed
Well, we'll see that later i believe...

What do you think of the "Phormula KS-4"

It have a 0-5V output and seems to be a "serious" product... and the knocking frequency can be setted.

I don't find any other product looking so serious at this price and it offers exactly qhat i need, but any other idea is welcome

I have not used these types of devices before, but I think someone mentioned using one in another thread. Maybe run a search.
